That's BB Michael James Scott and Daniel Torres flanking guest stars Tracee Beazer and Tituss Burgess.
Birdland was home to a delightful double header this past week, with The Broadway Boys on Sunday, and The Marcy & Zina Show on Monday.  Those Broadway Boys were in rare form, and between their hip arrangements, spot-on harmonies, amazing guest stars and a packed house, we are counting the minutes for a return engagement!  That's BB Michael James Scott and Daniel Torres flanking guest stars Tracee Beazer and Tituss Burgess to the left.  Songwriters Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich returned with one of their usual extravaganzas, showcasing clever lyrics and gorgeous melodies!  Their special guest stars included Scott Coulter, Jill Abramovits, Aaron Tveit (all seen below left), Stephen Bogardus, Ann Harada, and one of the best bands around!

The following Cast Party was very international, with performers schlepping from England, Germany, Australia and even Jersey.  Allie Schultz, one of our fave almost-Sandys from the TV series, “Grease: You're The One That I Want” blew the roof off the joint, as did many, many other swell and fabulous folks.  You can see some photos of the many talented-types taken by birthday boy Mark Rupp on Flickr!  As you probably know, we present Cast Party every single Monday, starting around 9:30 at Birdland, one of the best music rooms in the world.  Tedd Firth and Steve Doyle will be holding court as Cast Party Symphony Orchestra next week, and I will be hosting my heart out.  No wonder CBS-TV called us “Extreme Open Mic!”

ON THE CD, AT THE MOVIES, DAVE KOZ, A MULTI-GRAMMY NOMINATED SAX PLAYER with two gold albums and ten top 5 hits to his credit, takes center stage on eight instrumentals: "Over The Rainbow," "As Time Goes By," "The Pink Panther," "Summer of '42," "Cinema Paradiso," "Schindler's List," "It Might Be You" and " The Shadow of Your Smile." The 40-piece orchestra enlisted by Koz and producer Phil Ramone provides a majestic, sweeping soundscape for the saxophonist and his guest vocalists, including Vanessa Williams, who contributes an exquisite version of "The Way We Were," and Johnny Mathis, who perfectly captures the bittersweet quality of "The Shadow Of Your Smile," from The Sandpiper. Other highlights include Anita Baker's elegant rendering of "Somewhere," from West Side Story and Donna Summer's shimmering version of "A Whole New World," from Disney's Aladdin. Barry Manilow duets with Koz on a hip arrangement of Henry Mancini's " Moon River," and India.Aire delivers a deeply personal performance of "It Must Be You," from Tootsie. At The Movies is a must-have for music and film lovers everywhere. Disappear into another world and spend some time At The Movies.
